Building Cooperation

At the heart of the Channel Initiative lies a fundamental belief: that meaningful, lasting change is born not in isolation, but through deliberate and strategic cooperation. I see my role as a connector, building bridges between powerful grassroots movements and the resources, platforms, and influence needed to amplify their impact. This is the path that transforms isolated acts of charity into a sustained force for international advocacy and development.

Our Philosophy of Strategic Partnership

For me, cooperation must be rooted in shared values and a commitment to local leadership. I do not parachute in with predetermined solutions; instead, I seek out visionary leaders and communities already forging their own paths to justice and empowerment. My approach is built on deep listening, mutual respect, and a long-term perspective that prioritises the agency of those we serve.

Shared Values as a Foundation

Every partnership I enter is predicated on a shared commitment to human dignity, gender equality, and the right of all people to live in peace. This alignment ensures our work is cohesive and driven by a common purpose, rather than just a transactional funding relationship. It’s about building a movement, not just managing a project.

Empowering Local Leadership

My most profound example of this philosophy in action is my long-standing work with activist Neema Namadamu and her Maman Shujaa network in Eastern Congo. Neema is not a beneficiary of our work; she is the architect. My role is to amplify her vision, connect her movement to international platforms, and secure the resources she identifies as critical. This model ensures solutions are culturally resonant, sustainable, and truly owned by the community.

Channels for Advocacy and Solidarity

I focus on creating powerful storytelling campaigns that amplify survivor voices, mobilising support from the UK public and policymakers for urgent causes. By translating complex crises into human narratives, I build channels of empathy that drive tangible action and policy change.

Storytelling as a Catalyst

I believe authentic stories are the most potent tool for advocacy. My campaigns centre the firsthand accounts of survivors and changemakers, presenting their courage and solutions, not just their trauma. This ethical storytelling shifts the narrative from one of helplessness to one of active solidarity, fostering a deeper, more respectful engagement from a global audience.

Mobilising UK Public and Policy Support

From my base in London, I work to channel public solidarity into political influence. This involves:

  • Creating compelling campaign materials for digital and traditional media.
  • Briefing parliamentarians and facilitating direct advocacy with government bodies.
  • Engaging with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to ensure the voices from the frontlines inform UK foreign policy and humanitarian funding decisions.

This two-pronged approach—public awareness and policy engagement—creates a powerful feedback loop that holds leaders accountable.

Charity Partnerships in the UK and Beyond

My work involves collaborating with UK-based charities, trusts, and corporate partners to fund and scale initiatives. By leveraging diverse networks and expertise, I help translate financial support into effective, on-the-ground programmes with measurable outcomes.

Collaborating with UK Charities and Trusts

I partner with established organisations to pool expertise and resources for greater effect. A key example is my collaboration with The Advocacy Academy, a youth activism charity. Together, we co-create educational programmes that connect young leaders in the UK with the realities of activists like Neema, fostering a new generation of globally-conscious advocates. These partnerships are built on complementary strengths and a shared theory of change.

Engaging Corporate Partners

I proactively seek corporate partnerships grounded in genuine social impact, not just CSR branding. I work with businesses to align their support with specific, outcome-driven projects—such as funding a women’s cooperative or a digital storytelling workshop. This provides partners with a clear, accountable connection to their contribution, ensuring their engagement delivers real value to our shared missions.

Measuring Impact and Ensuring Accountability

I am committed to transparent reporting and use robust frameworks to measure the outcomes of our cooperative projects, ensuring donor confidence and, more importantly, that our work is truly effective for the communities we serve.

Transparent Reporting

I maintain a clear line of sight from every donation to its final impact. Partners and supporters receive regular updates that go beyond financial accounting to show human stories and developmental progress. This transparency is non-negotiable; it builds trust and demonstrates that their partnership is handled with integrity and precision.

Outcome-Focused Frameworks

I measure success not by activities completed, but by tangible changes in the lives of individuals and communities. My reporting focuses on outcomes, using tailored indicators for each project. For instance, the impact of our work in Eastern Congo is assessed through metrics like the number of women gaining economic independence or the increase in local advocacy campaigns led by Maman Shujaa.
